All of the outgoing lanterns along here would have replaced Thorn Beta 7s running 80 Watt MBF in the mid 1990s. The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 28th March 2010.
Notice the shallow spigot cap and minimal outreach on the swan neck bracket of the outgoing column.
This Philips MI 26 located adjacent Ladybank Road had operated without a bowl for many years:
On the other hand, the bowl on this Thorn Beta 5 had not been missing for long when these photographs were taken. The footpath that this column was installed on is recessed into the hillside; meaning that while there may have been an approximate distance of five metres between the lantern and the footpath, the height of the adjacent bank meant that the lantern was only between two and three metres away from arm's reach.
