Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract
Deadmans Lane, Alvaston
The following photographs were taken on Saturday, 26th September 2015.
The first column is 8 m in height and supports a WRTL Arc 100 Watt SON-T lantern. A Thorn Alpha 1 was installed here previously; however, its acrylic 'Opticell' unit split in April 2005, with the consequence that the lantern was replaced.
A Royce Thompson SC1000 photocell was fitted, although this dates from after the PFI commenced.
These older pictures, taken shortly before the Alpha 1 was replaced, reveal the damage to the Opticell.
I do not recall seeing the other half of the Opticell on the ground around the column when these pictures were taken. This damage was not unique to this Alpha 1; one in Mackworth suffered a similar fate before being replaced.
Back into the 'present day', and a little further along the road, a GEC Z9538 55 Watt SOX lantern is seen at the junction with Selborne Street.
The lantern's GRP canopy was certainly looking its age.
