The columns being removed on this road were:
Seq. No. | Lamp Number | Location | Lamp Type | Watt | Isolation Point |
1 | 60393 | ADJ NO 5 | SXPL3 | 35 | |
2 | 60394 | ADJ NO 8 | SXPL3 | 35 | |
3 | 60395 | ADJ NO 19 | SXPL3 | 35 | |
4 | 60396 | FP BTWN NOS 10/12 | SXPL3 | 35 |
The following photographs were taken on the 4th April 2010 - Easter Sunday. All of the outgoing columns were fitted with GEC Z5698U post-top lanterns; all in seemingly good condition for their age.
The first column from Acacia Avenue was fitted with the door from another column for many years.
On the other hand, the second column looked to be in near-original condition:
An alternative way for pedestrians to access Acacia Avenue is to use this short footpath link. The Z5698U here was attached to an Abacus raise-and-lower column, for ease of maintenance. Until the mid-2000s, this footpath was home to a large tree (its stump is still visible on the grass verge immediately opposite the new column in the background), which obviously reduced light levels along the path - both during the day and at night.
Column 60395's number was mounted much higher up the column shaft than the numbers of the other columns were. I can only assume that the column base was surrounded by vegetation (that has subsequently been removed) when the number was applied.
