The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 21st March 2010. Murray Road seems to have been forgotten when the rest of the estate that it is part of was relit in 2005/6. It wasn't forgotten on the PFI, however. The outgoing columns were gone by Thursday, 25th March.
This Thorn Beta 5 attached to a sleeved Stanton 7 concrete column is unusual in that it is remotely geared - a two-part photocell controls the lantern's operation.
This Beta 5's bowl is hanging on for dear life - a length of insulation tape holds the front of the bowl in place (the toggle clip is broken), however, the rear of the bowl still hangs loose due to the hinge pivot having disappeared.
The unsleeved Stanton 7 column featured in the Survivor 11C article was also doomed - by 2010, this was one of the last unsleeved concrete columns in Derby, let alone in Mickleover.
The seemingly original concrete road surface along here was in a good condition for its age.
For a short time in about 2004/5, Derby's chosen type of spot-replacement 5 m column was a CU Phosco hockeystick painted a nonstandard colour. This particular example supports another Beta 5.
The Philips MI 26 attached to this column featured a somewhat unpleasant-looking GRP canopy.
The column's inspection door had been removed, revealing the original 1950s' cut-out and lead-sheathed service cable. In this type of installation (known as a TN-S System), the lead sheath is used as the earth conductor. The cable entry hole beneath the door is visible.
