Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract - St Mellion Close, Mickleover

This road was constructed in the late 1980s, and the current system of lighting also dates from then. I was surprised that this estate was not relit as part of the mass-replacement work in the early years of the PFI, as roads of a similar age in Oakwood were. Still, at least this ensured that the road was in virtually as-built condition.

The following photographs were taken on Tuesday, 2nd May 2017.

Whilst the roadway was lit with Thorn Beta 5 35 Watt SOX lanterns fitted to 5 m tubular steel columns, the footpath link was lit with Thorn Gamma 6 lanterns (also 35 Watt) attached to 5 m mid-hinged columns made by Fabrikat.

A little further along the footpath, and the tape repair to this 1990s' replacement Gamma 6 was somewhat more substantial in its nature!
