The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 18th December 2011. By this time, the only old lighting remaining on the road was across the former Great Northern Railway bridge; the rest had been removed through earlier schemes.
Additional to the assets listed above was an illuminated weight limit sign, installed at the approach to the bridge. The outgoing post appears to be a 5 m Fabrikat tubular steel column that had been cut down to a signpost size; the replacement post supports a Simmonsigns LUA LED signlight unit.
Five 6 m Abacus tubular steel columns were set for removal for this scheme.
Four of these columns ended their days supporting Simplex Aries 55 Watt SOX lanterns.
The new columns are 10 m in height.
A Thorn Beta 2 55 Watt SOX lantern was fitted to the outgoing column here. This was fitted on Tuesday, 8th March 2005, after the Aries lantern was damaged.
The new columns support 'medium' (SGS 253) Iridium lanterns.
The difference in height between the new and old columns is apparent here.
The door lock on this outgoing column had failed; the door having been secured by a stainless steel band.
The bowl on this Aries was in a rather grubby state; the canopy wasn't in much better condition!
The new columns have been placed alongside the old columns.
The refractor panels on the Aries' bowl are visible in this view.
The final couple of columns were installed at the edge of the bridge deck.
The Aries lanterns would themselves have been fitted as replacements for Thorn Beta 7 125 Watt MBF lanterns.
