Local Urbis Sapphire 1s

The only Sapphire 1 that exists on a public road in Derbyshire (of which I am aware) can be found adjacent the A38 northbound carriageway between the Kingsway ('Grand Canyon') and Markeaton Roundabouts. The lantern is located at the top of a short footpath that links a lay-by (probably once intended for use as a bus stop) on the A38 to Mackworth's Greenwich Drive South.

This is the Sapphire 1 in question; until some point in 2016, a Thorn Beta 5 was fitted here. The only fault with the Beta 5 was that its bowl was missing - perhaps, the lantern was reported as not working at some point, and because of the missing bowl (with no replacements to hand - this installation is owned by National Highways [formerly the Highways Agency]), the lantern was replaced.

A 50 Watt (or 70 Watt) SON-T lamp is fitted.

Not too long afterwards, the Sapphire was replaced with a Philips 'Streetfighter' SGS 101 mounted post-top. The second column on the footpath, supporting a Siemens SRL 35, was also changed to have a Streetfighter at this time.
