109DBA. Doncaster Railway Station, Station Court, Doncaster, South Yorkshire Located on the footbridge spanning the many through lines and sidings that pass between the former Doncaster Locomotive Works to the immediate west of the station, and Station Court itself, are a number of ELECO HW-922 lanterns attached to the bridge structure using steel conduits that are formed to give the appearance of miniature hockey stick columns. The HW-922 (and sister HW-918 lantern) was designed to run an 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp, and indeed, these examples may still have been in operation, running MBF lamps, into 2025. Sadly, their days are numbered, as the bridge (built in the 1870s but relocated in the 1950s) is now considered structurally unsafe, and is due to be demolished soon; indeed, part of the structure was dismantled over the Christmas 2024 period.

One of the installations is seen near the end of the bridge, with Denison House, part of the former Works buildings, providing a backdrop. Beneath the bridge, veteran locomotive 37099, originally D6799, dating from 1962, and coupled to Mk 1 Coach 6264 (built in 1956 in York as a Gangwayed Brake Van, and numbered 80971, before being converted to a Generator Van in 2003), is seen stabled in one of the sidings.

A short chamfering section creates a seamless transition between the bracket pipe's diameter, and that of the surrounding lantern canopy.

This example is a little closer to the staircase access to the bridge from Platforms 4 - 8. The lamp control gear is housed in the small oblong enclosure that is immediately to the left of the bracket in this view.

The internal aluminium ring that supports the glass refractor bowl is not quite secured correctly.

The two installations are seen again from the other side of the bridge, with three floodlights from CU Phosco's FL300 series providing illumination onto the lines below.

The brickwork of the Victorian buildings provides a good colour contrast between the grey of the lantern canopies and brackets.

A further wall-mounted example is seen after the bridge.
