109I. Main Road / Pennine Bridleway, Stainforth, Craven, North Yorkshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Located at the junction of Main Road and Goat Lane is an early 1950s' Stanton & Staveley 7 series 15 ft (5 m) concrete column with a curved top-entry bracket supporting an ELECO 'Baldock' (or Crompton 'Sirius') lantern, designed for 100 - 200 Watt GLS (tungsten filament) lamps, and 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps. The lamp type employed currently is unknown, though as the installation may belong to the local Parish Council, it could be a straightforward GLS replacement lamp. Further down the road is a CU Phosco P107 post-top lantern attached to that same company's 'Byway-X' concrete column.
The earlier version of the 7 series column is identified by its wider base section with matching profile door (sheet steel, instead of the later cast aluminium) and more ornate top section, where the bracket attaches.
A Royce Thompson photocell bracket and Zodion SS4-type photocell have been added to the lantern canopy.
The glass bowl is a Holophane 4115 type; the same as is fitted to my Wardle Avon.
Evidence of cement being used to repair the bracket exists.
Another view of the installation, from across the road.
This version of the Baldock requires a wing nut to be loosened to allow the bowl to open; ELECO changed the design subsequently to a clip-based retention system instead.
The P107 is by the entrance to a small car park.
A Royce Thompson photocell is at an offset position on the canopy, owing to the canopy being secured by a central locking screw.
Curiously, a second photocell is positioned on the column shaft, with several cable ties being used to hold its bracket securely.
