113DE. The Leys, Long Buckby, Northamptonshire Installed along this residential road are several 5 m tubular steel columns supporting GEC Z5699 lanterns. With the electricity services to many of the properties on this road having been installed between 1985 and 1987, the approximate age of the lanterns can be gauged. The Z5699s are switched using Royce Thompson P9 photocells installed in a dedicated housing between the column and the lantern.

This installation is the first to be seen from High Street.

Typically, the polycarbonate bowls fitted to the Z5699s have discoloured over the years.

The next column to be topped with a GEC lantern was only a short distance away.

The stove-enamelled black finish applied to this Z5699's canopy and base had worn away quite heavily.

The P9 photocell housing was protruding from its surrounding casting.
