113DF. Ashmore, Long Buckby, Northamptonshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Installed throughout Ashmore, and on the cul-de-sacs of Clifton Close and Phillips Way, are 5 m sheet steel columns supporting post-top lanterns from the GEC Z5670 family. As the electricity supplies to the houses on these road were installed in 1981 and 1982, the likely age of these installations is established. Ashmore is an extension to the earlier development of High Stack, which was lit with ELECO 'Ware Mk 3' HW-852 lanterns on Stanton 10A columns, though sadly, these had been removed by November 2023, when the pictures below were taken.
Despite the installations being over forty years old when pictured, the galvanised finish to the columns gave them an altogether newer appearance.
The detector from a Royce Thompson P42E two-part photocell detector is visible on the lantern's base casting.
Another example is pictured below, with more of the same installations seen in the background.
Here, the detector for the older P42 photocell is installed; this could be original to when the column was installed.
This example is on Phillips Way. I was rather amused that GEC lanterns were specified on a road with that name!
The detector here is for a Royce Thompson ER4N photocell. Owing to the lantern bowls having yellowed, the lamp type that these lanterns run is unknown.
