126AA. Off Dallimore Road, Kirk Hallam, Ilkeston Located on a roadway leading to the Kirk Hallam Social Club are three 5 m tubular steel columns, all of which would have supported Simplex Solumbra post-top lanterns when new in the 1970s, but in the modern era, the column located closest to Dallimore Road now accommodates an LED floodlight instead (though the Solumbra's base casting survives). The lamp types employed in the post-tops is not known, though they may still be operational, with the supply remaining live to feed the floodlight.
The column situated closest to the Social Club is pictured first. Judging by the lengths of cable that pass between the top of the column and the discharge floodlight that illuminates the car park area, the original underground supply cable for the columns may have failed, with this being used as a replacement.
The close-up reveals that there is also a CCTV camera attached (partially obscured by the tree branches in the foreground).
The second installation is far more visible.
Damage is present to the lantern's bowl, although everything remains intact.
The floodlight-topped column is of a different design to the other two (it has a wide base and is shorter overall).
The Solumbra base casting was probably found to have seized grub screws that prevented its removal from the column; thus, it was left in place when the rest of the lantern was taken away. The fact that the floodlight body has had to be secured using a cable tie bodes well for its longevity!
