170CB. Off Freemen's Common Road, Aylestone, Leicester With thanks to Leo Conway for discovering these Survivors. Installed on the shared forecourt for some vehicle dealerships are six 25 ft (8 m) Stanton 1808 8 m concrete columns, with each supporting a twin-arm E-type bracket and two ELECO / Davis SR/GR 304/5 lanterns, for 250 - 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) or SON (high pressure sodium) lamps. The fact that each column has floodlights attached to it suggests that the original lanterns have become disused; indeed, most have lost their bowls, although lamps still seem to be fitted.
Four of the columns are positioned with their brackets all facing the same directions.
This foreground column is one of the few where the lantern has retained its bowl.
A 250 Watt SON-T lamp is visible in the right-hand lantern, although its arc tube appears to be damaged, and is unlikely to work any longer.
The remains of the bowl are still attached to the next right-hand lantern, while part of the gasket hangs out of its neighbour.
The right-hand bracket on the rearmost of the four columns shows evidence of damage near its attachment with the lantern.
