170HB. Main Street, Skeffington, Harborough, Leicestershire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Positioned on a wooden pole in the centre of a grass triangle is a short bracket supporting a GEC Z8896 lantern, which would be designed for running an 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp, but may run a 50 - 70 Watt SON (high pressure sodium) lamp instead these days. A second example existed on Hunters Avenue, and was attached to a sleeved Stanton 10 concrete column, but this had been replaced by an ASD Micro Highway Diamond LED lantern when I visited in November 2024.

Very few street lights exist in the small village of Skeffington, and I suspect that those that do, are under the ownership of the Parish Council; hence, why this Z8896 continues in nightly service.

The bracket has a minimal outreach, and is positioned to face the housing, rather than the side of the grass triangle that bypasses it. A Zodion photocell is positioned on top of the box that houses the fuse and control gear.

The box was supplied by Courtney, Pope Lighting - an organisation that produced many industrial light fittings itself formerly.

The polycarbonate bowl has discoloured from UV degradation.

Two lengths of Twin & Earth cable enter the box - one of which is the incoming feed from the overhead electricity supply.
