211C. Garrison Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Situated in the car park to the rear of the Magistrates' Court is a 10 m tapered sheet steel column made by Stainton, and topped with a GEC ZD10517 lantern, designed for running multiple lamps. This setup seems rather incongruous, as the Magistrates' Court building dates from 1992, and in all likelihood, the column is of the same age, but the ZD10517 was long out of production by then, and GEC was no more anyway. Presumably, the lantern was installed second-hand here, owing to the large area that required lighting, but with little available space for multiple lighting columns.

The column features two base compartments, owing to the amount of space required for the multiple control gear sets for the lamps; the lantern being designed to run three 250 - 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) or SON (high pressure sodium) lamps, but the considerable weight of these components meaning that they were only suitable for installing remotely from the lantern.

The lantern's base casting doesn't quite match the column's spigot design, which may be another hint that the lantern was retrieved from another site, and then installed here.

Even from the ground, the lantern's four-foot-six (1370 mm) diameter seems colossal.

This rather curious tubular steel column was installed at the start of a nearby footpath behind properties.

A top-entry Thorn Beta 5 for 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps is attached to a cranked bracket, which in turn attaches to the column with a spigot cap that looks far too old for this type of installation - clearly, the normal rules regarding the availability of seemingly obsolete products do not apply in Great Yarmouth!

On another footpath, this headless cast iron column was to be found. This carried a swan neck bracket and another Beta 5 previously.

Only the spigot cap remains here now, with the wiring emerging from the top.
