236. Nutsey Close, Totton and Eling, Testwood, New Forest, Hampshire With thanks to SotonSteve for discovering these Survivors. Situated on the road leading into the Testwood Water Supply Works, and within the site itself, are a number of 5 m tubular steel columns supporting GEC ZD815 post-top lanterns - a lantern that was once commonplace around Southampton, but one that had become a rarity by January 2025, when the examples here were pictured. The ZD815 was designed for running up to three 60 - 100 Watt GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) or 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps, or a single 125 Watt MBF lamp, though the lamp types / quantities of these examples is unknown.
The first example is situated near to Nutsey Close's junction with Brunel Road - the column is leaning slightly.
The lantern's bowl features a few separate damaged parts.
The second column is still vertical, but is also positioned closely to the carriageway edge.
The ability for the lantern to accommodate multiple lamps is thanks to its wider (584 mm / 23 inch) diameter. It also measures 279 mm (11 inches) in height.
Three further identical installations exist outside of the Testwood site, with more examples being visible on the access road, along with a dayburning Thorn Gamma 6 in the far background, which must have served as a replacement for a defective ZD815.
