33AB. Off St Alban's Road, Highbury Vale, Bulwell, Nottinghamshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Positioned in front of two adjacent premises are two 15 ft (5 m) sheet steel base-hinged columns, with both supporting an Atlas Alpha 3 lantern running a 250 - 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp. One of the two premises is a vehicle repair garage, and I suspect that the whole site may have been one large garage complex previously, with both of these installations illuminating the forecourt.
The first of the two columns is positioned alongside a wall that was, presumably constructed when the right-hand building became separate from the left.
A NEMA photocell socket has been added to the Alpha 3's canopy, with a Zodion SS4 fitted here.
The acrylic bowl is damaged, which has allowed rainwater to enter the lantern, and gather in the lowest portion of the bowl.
In all likelihood, the column probably hasn't been lowered since the wall was constructed (the nursery that occupies this building was established in 1993, according to its signage, which is probably the age of this too).
The second installation forms a mirror image with the first.
A hole is present in the front of this example's bowl, although the interior doesn't appear to suffer quite as badly with water ingress. The lamp looks to be 400 Watt, going on its size, and a detachable corrugated aluminium reflector is positioned above it.
The two rear bowl clips are detached, but as can be seen, the front two clips secure the bowl adequately on their own, which is probably why later Alpha 3s saw the rear clips omitted from complete lanterns.
