115e Clayton Street, Chesterfield Providing illumination to the compounds in front of a couple of industrial units are two aluminium-bodied Thorn Beta 79 70 Watt SON lanterns attached to square-based 5 m Thorn 'Classic' QC4 aluminium columns. The installations are likely to date to the early 1980s, and may still be operational.

The lanterns are in typical condition for their age, with the bowls having discoloured and clouded slightly, and the gear area covers showing signs of corrosion to the aluminium.

The second installation is positioned in close proximity to one of Clayton Street's actual street lights - a 5 m British Steel tubular steel column supporting a Philips MI 26 35 Watt SOX lantern. The age of the two installations is likely to be comparable, although the Thorn column appears to be in better overall condition.

The lanterns are not fitted with NEMA sockets and are probably switched directly from within the buildings.
