115f Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield Installed a short distance from the installations seen in Survivor page 115 is an Abacus 30 ft tubular steel column supporting an ELECO GR 150 135 Watt SOX lantern. The lantern is likely to be original to when the column was installed, and perhaps therefore would be old enough to have been fitted with a 150 Watt SOX lamp (hence, the lantern's name) when new, prior to improvements in SOX lamp technology, which lead to a re-rating of the available wattages.

Although the lantern appears to have solid panels attached to the bowl, they are standard refractor panels, but the plastic of which these are made has discoloured over time, making them reflect the July sunlight. The photocell control for the lantern (a modern Royce Thompson Oasis 1000 unit) is situated on top of the bracket, rather than on the lantern itself.

What was not obvious in the above photographs was the rather severe angle to which the lantern had turned on its bracket at the time of photographing.
