The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 24th October 2010:
Many of the new columns were installed away from the outgoing columns; presumably, the new locations were found to allow for a more uniform light distribution than the previous column positions did.
Most of the outgoing lanterns were GEC Z9538s.
This somewhat abstract view of the replacement Iridium clearly shows the PFI-specification Royce Thompson SC1000 35 Lux photocell.
The solar-powered parking meter will no doubt benefit from having the new Cosmo-White lantern installed alongside it!
The bowl fitted to this Z9538 was not original - it was actually a second-hand bowl from a Simplex Aries. Owing to the different methods of securing an Aries bowl in comparison to a Z9538 bowl, a length of insulation tape has been wrapped around the assembly, in a vain attempt to hold the bowl in place.
The installation outside the cement works was one of the few to see the new column installed near the outgoing column.
A narrow reflector surrounded the lamp in the new lanterns:
The new column here was installed opposite the aptly-named New Street:
A newer column supporting a Thorn Beta 2 was installed after the junction.
A Philips SOX lamp was fitted in this lantern.
A final Z9538 appears in silhouette below.
