Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract

New Street, City Centre

The equipment being removed consisted of the following items in 1997:

Seq. No. Lamp Number Location Lamp Type Watt Isolation Point
1 31929 O/S ORBITAL HYDRAULICS SXPL3 55
2 98321 OS WHOLESALE LTD SXPL2 55

The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 24th October 2010. The two outgoing columns on this short road linking John Street with Canal Street both supported GEC Z9538 lanterns.

The first column's door had been wrapped in a length of black and yellow hazard tape; presumably, the lock had failed.

The lantern sported a rather grubby bowl.

The replacement Iridium will probably look much the same in thirty years' time - assuming that it is still in service then!

The second column's door lock had also failed; a stainless steel band had been placed around the base.

Corrosion was visible around this column's bracket joint - the small gap between the bracket and the column would have allowed moisture to seep in.
