The ESLA in Winter 2017
After a few mild winters, the end of 2017 saw the snow make a dramatic return. The heaviest snowfall was on Sunday, 10th December, with a lighter fall three days later, as can be seen below.
The footprints in the snow remind me of a wonderful Raymond Briggs novel featuring a snowman, but I cannot recall its title at present... Also of note is the amber-coloured sky - the result of multiple high and low pressure sodium street lanterns shining onto the white ground. This is a sight that will soon be gone forever, owing to Derbyshire's move to LED street lighting. The output from the ESLA's own LED lamp is also enhanced by the icy ground.
