A Stock Farewell Tour Gallery 1

I travelled in car 5034 during the event; this was originally numbered 5008 and formed part of the first A Stock train in passenger service (along with unit 5004) in June 1961.

The withdrawal of A Stock trains from everyday passenger service also saw the end of T12-size ("fat") fluorescent lamps in passenger saloons across the whole Underground network. The T12 size itself became obsolete in 2012, owing to stricter EU guidelines concerning lamp efficacies, which these lamps could not meet.

A train of S8 Stock awaits departure from the adjacent platform.

The order for the A Stock trains came about as part of the post-war electrification programme for the section of the Metropolitan line between Rickmansworth and Amersham. Indeed, the "A" of "A Stock" represents "Amersham".

The waiting room at Chesham contains a gallery of photographs taken of the station over the years.

There are also these postcards depicting advertisements from yesteryear.

Four tip-up seats are provided on the end wall of Driving Motor cars.
