Refuge Beacon D
Three 3 mm Allen bolts secure the beacon globe to the gallery, while two 4 mm Allen grubs secure the gallery to the post.
With the globe removed, the 11 Watt compact fluorescent lamp is plainly visible - its height means that it fits within the globe with only millimetres to spare. A simple L-shaped strip of thin steel supports the lampholder; the ballast and supply cable connector block is attached to the other side.
The refuge beacon was mounted to a 76 mm post-top wall bracket in June 2019; the bracket was shared with the Simmonsigns Pulsa Twin Amber Flasher unit.
The video below demonstrates the beacon (and Pulsa's) operation:
Testing with my energy monitoring device revealed the following results:
Test Voltage (V) | Current being drawn at full power (A) | Measured wattage (W) | Apparent Power (VA) | Frequency (Hz) | Power Factor | True Power (W) | Difference to rated wattage | Percentage Difference |
247.2 | 0.15 | 16 | 37 | 49.9 | 0.49 | 18.17 | 7.17 | 65.17% |
