209C. Hollycroft Close, Emneth, Norfolk With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. A variety of columns and lanterns are installed along this cul-de-sac, with possibly the most notable being two AEI (later Thorn) aluminium 'Leader' columns supporting 'Ashby' / Gamma 8 post-top lanterns. None of the lanterns run discharge lamps any longer (they may have been geared to run 35 Watt SOX lamps previously); all have been converted to operate mains voltage LED retro-fit lamps instead.
A Stanton 1805 5 m concrete column was seen first from Hollycroft Road. This was fitted with a GEC Z9536.
The LED lamp is visible within the lantern. The Z9536 was long enough to accommodate 55 Watt SOX lamps, although the lamp support was positioned far enough across for 35 Watt lamps to be used instead.
Very little remained in the column's famously narrow base. Previously, the lamp control gear would have been positioned in here. The connector for a Royce Thompson P42 two-part photocell remains as a makeshift junction box for the wiring from the cut-out to the lantern, but isn't used for anything else these days - the lantern now being fitted with a miniature photocell instead.
One of the two Leader columns was next. Unlike the examples seen in Oxford Place, Terrington St Clement, both of these had triangular spigots for the Ashby / Gamma 8 lanterns.
This lantern retained its P42 photocell' the detector being visible on the canopy.
Once again, the control gear components were missing from the column base.
With the switch on the controller set to 'test' mode, the LED lamp activated.
The second column wasn't far away.
The setup here was identical to that seen with the other Leader column.
Another strange installation was this Relite / Simplex Gemini, fitted to a Concrete Utilities' 'Estate Minor X' column by way of an 'Arc 3' bracket.
Here, a domestic LED GLS lamp had been used in place of the 35 Watt SOX lamp - that must look peculiar after nightfall!
