69C. Tat Bank Road, Oldbury, Sandwell, West Midlands With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Attached to buildings on opposite sides of the road from each other are several GEC Z8430CM lanterns, designed for running 250 - 400 Watt mercury vapour (MBF) lamps, although the exact wattage and type of lamps fitted to these examples is unknown.
The first example is to be found overlooking the access into the Alutrade site.
The original Z8430 featured a bowl optimised for running the tubular MA/V-type mercury lamps; this later type saw the bowl redesigned to accommodate coated elliptical mercury lamps instead.
Two of the three examples on the other side of the road, belonging to BIP (British Industrial Plastics), are seen here.
The close-up of the foreground lantern confirms that an elliptical lamp is fitted here.
