The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 12th December 2010.

Bakewell Street has operated one-way to vehicular traffic in a north-westerly direction for many years. The signage informing road users of this requirement was undergoing replacement as part of the PFI scheme. Below, the sign plate has been transferred from the outgoing post to the new post, in preparation for the former's removal. At the time of photographing, the Signature 'Exlite LA' twin 8 Watt fluorescent signlight was still operating; the new Simmonsigns LUA LED signlight was not yet in use.

On the opposite side of the road, the story was the same. The Signature 'Exlite Signlite' unit has been rotated on its bracket (perhaps accidentally knocked during the installation of the new post). Despite this, this signlight was also still operating at the time of photographing.

A Thorn Beta 5 fitted to a 5 m tubular steel column was fitted to the first column seen after the illuminated 'One Way' signs. This column was also fitted with signage, although these plates were only repeaters and therefore did not require their own dedicated illumination.

Nearby, another signpost was set to be replaced - this supported a Truesigns T8C fitting. This particular post was just a regular straight post (designed for non-illuminated signage) that had been adapted to accommodate a power supply and signlight unit. This rather crude method of illuminating signs was once quite common in Derby, although this installation was probably (by 2010) one of the last of its kind.

A GEC Z9532 was fitted to the following column. The signlight here was fitted to the column shaft, in order to reduce the amount of posts required in an already narrow footway. Once again, the sign plates had already been transferred to the new post at this location.

The signlight's maintenance number is still just about visible on the canopy.

This column also supported a signlight; the replacement post is seen in exact alignment with the column.

Yes, this lantern really is as close to the overhead telecommunications cable as it appears to be!

A top-entry Beta 5 was fitted to the next column.

Heavy rusting was present on the installation's bracket.

This new column was installed away from the frontages of adjacent properties, but to the rear of a build-out in the road.

Close-up of the Z9532 in the background:

The maintenance number was still much easier to see on the signlight attached to this column.

A final Z9532 was fitted to the last column before the Drewry Lane junction.

The supply cable can be seen entering this column in the excavated trench.

The two 'No Entry' / 'Two-way traffic' signs at the Drewry Lane junction were also due for replacement. Although twin LUA fittings are installed on the outgoing post in the background, they are not to the PFI specification (in that they run fluorescent lamps), and so will not be transferred across to the new post.
