Station Rd Replacements

Work began to replace the old columns on the 27th October 2004. Four replacements were made that day, starting from the Uttoxeter Rd end of Station Rd.

This the second column along the road (number 35470) and as you can see, it is ready to be pulled from the ground. This is the only picture I managed to take of the replacement work that day.

The first of the new 10 m columns, fitted with a Thorn Civic 2 (150 Watt SON-T), was in place and operational already.

In preparation for the rest of the column replacements, I took the following pictures along the road later the same day. Unfortunately, these were taken from a moving car, but still, the Alpha 1s (and Civic replacements) are plainly visible.

I returned at dusk, in order to capture the ambience of the SOX lighting before it was gone forever.

This Alpha 1 is photographed with my GE 90 Watt SOX lamp fitted; details on how this came to happen can be read here.

Another GE lamp existed in this Alpha 1; details of this column's removal are covered on Page 3.

The last of the new columns installed on the first day was this one opposite Burlington Way.
